Prairies côtières de la Baltique boréale

Coastal meadows, mostly with low growing plant communities in the geolittoral zone, sometimes interspersed with salt patches, salinity is low (brackish water), tide hardly exists but there can be influence from land upheaval. Most of the areas were traditionally used for mowing or grazing, thus enlarging the areas and keeping the vegetation low, rich in vascular plants and suitable for nesting waders. Characteristically the vegetation occurs in distinct zones, with saline vegetation closest to the sea.
